Physiotherapist

BSc(BiomedSc), GradCert Physio (Pelvic Floor), GradCert Physio (Exercise for Women)

Christina Lathouras (Chrissi) is a woman’s and pelvic health physiotherapist whose love for women’s health started as an undergraduate, especially being able to make a difference to a woman’s quality of life.  She is passionate about inspiring, educating, and empowering women to make their pelvic health a priority.

Chrissi has over 10 years’ experience in both private practice in Darwin and the acute hospital setting in Brisbane.  She commenced her career in Darwin where she helped create a pelvic health physiotherapy service in her workplace after seeing the need in the region, and also created antenatal and postnatal hydrotherapy programs to help keep women active during their pregnancy and beyond.  Since working in Brisbane, Chrissi has supported patients on both the maternity and gynaecology wards and has been able to offer continuity of care by also supporting them in the hospital’s outpatient centre once they have been discharged back home.

She has completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Science followed by a Bachelor of Physiotherapy together with a Bachelor of Exercise Science.  She has since returned to further postgraduate studies in pelvic floor rehabilitation and exercise for women, and is currently completing her Master in Pelvic Health Physiotherapy through the University of Melbourne.

Chrissi is able to offer treatment in many different areas of pelvic health including bladder and bowel concerns, pelvic floor dysfunction, prolapse, persistent pelvic pain, supporting you through pregnancy and postnatally, abdominal muscle separation, peri/post-menopausal issues and pre/post gynaecological surgery.  She is committed to providing the most up to date evidence-based care for her patients; and she ensures this by maintaining current memberships with the Australian Physiotherapy Association, Women’s Men’s & Pelvic Health Physiotherapy special interest group, Continence Foundation of Australia, International Continence Society, Urogynaecological Society of Australasia and the Pelvic Pain Foundation of Australia.  Due to her love of lifelong learning, she also was a member of the Queensland Branch APA Women’s, Men’s and Pelvic Health Committee between 2012 and 2017, where she assisted in co-ordinating professional development events for Queensland members.

When Chrissi is not at Vera, you can find her with her 3 cheeky little boys in the Queensland sunshine usually with a coffee in hand, or out exploring with the whole family. She is originally from Adelaide, growing up in a Greek family and she remains bilingual as she can still speak Greek.

Her love of good food stems from being raised by a chef, so naturally loves cooking (Greek of course!) and experimenting with food.  Chrissi also loves travelling the world and can’t wait to get back to the Greek island of Ikaria where her family are from.
