Sense & Soma

with Claire Stephensen

A monthly 90-minute group embodied movement session designed to support you to reconnect to your sensory experience and body.

Why?

When we experience trauma, chronic pain, attachment disruption or chronic busyness and live in a culture that prioritises disconnection and shame - our in built security sensors (aka sensory system) and bodily systems either switch off or become hyper-sensitive.

Reattune

By reattuning to our sensory and body experiences we can tend to the parts of our body and brain which are required to enter into our parasympathetic nervous system needs for rest and digest, social connection, mindfulness, presence and safety.

Equip

Informed by somatic psychotherapy, music therapy and many modalities of embodied movement - Sense & Soma is designed to equip you with the skills needed to wake up and/or turn down your sensory system so it can return to its jobs of protection, safety, support and pleasure.

Sessions are held on a Friday every four weeks, between 9:30am - 11:00am in the Vera studio. To secure your place, submit a booking request below (dates are listed on the form) or call 07 2000 1099.

  • Claire Stephensen

Integrative Somatic Trauma & Creative Arts Practitioner

    RMT, MIACN, FECC, MMusThy

A somatic therapist, neuropsychotherapist, creative arts therapist and all round embodiment nerd, Claire facilitates spaces that span the often intangible worlds of safety, belonging, full bodied pleasure, consent and power.

To be in Claire’s medicinal spaces means to be valued, acknowledged, and deeply heard. She creatively weaves together sessions that incorporate whole- body listening, psychosomatic education, evidence- based practices and storytelling - demonstrating the kind of authentic, vulnerable and embodied leadership that de-stigmatises our most human expressions.

Through working with Claire, people get to know, understand and express the language of their bodies. Informed by her clinical background and own experiences with recovery, Claire’s work helps people move through shame, grief and trauma. A connector of all things, Claire is able to create pathways for more pleasure, play and creativity through co-regulation, deep attunement and a capacity to see wholeness and potential even in the darkest of moments.
